One powerful reason to pray is
found in the fact that prayer was instituted by God. He asks us over and over in His Word to pray.
Jesus himself knew that there are many situations in life in which we lose confidence and strength in the purpose of prayer,
so he gave us His word. When His
disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray in Luke 11, our Master and
Teacher responded:
“So I say to
you: Ask and it will be given to
you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to
you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the
one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Luke
11:9-10 (NIV)
Our questions are valid:
Why
do I need to pray?
Why
do I need to ask Him, when He is God and already knows everything and controls
everything?
If
He is omnipotent, powerful, and omniscient, why does He say “Ask Me”?
Proper prayer to God must have a beneficial impact
on human nature, for if it did not, God would never ask us to do it. Prayer
leads us to exemplify godly character in our lives, and brings us closer to
being like God in our behavior, actions, and conduct.
